Detailed description of Indian Springs Metropark Golf Course

Indian Springs Metropark Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in White Lake, Michigan. Indian Springs is one of seven Detroit area Huron Clinton Metro Park golf courses.

Indian Springs Metropark Golf Course was designed by Susan Nyquist and opened in 1988.

The layout winds through hardwood forest and most of the challenge is keeping the ball between the trees. Modest bunkering and a few wetlands add to the experience. The terrain is rolling but the course is very walkable. Water hazards come into play on holes #8 and #11.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,688 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,425 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 13, a par-5 that plays to 602 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 129 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 3, a 442 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Indian Springs is # 16, the short 129 yard par-3.

My son Jeremy and I , catching the last of golfing in Michigan at 40 degrees, 10mph north wind with a light cold mist in the air, challenging our mental focus.

I failed, starting with 9 over on the front 9's (3,253yds) first 5 holes, things had to change. The #3 hole (dog leg right) is the #1 handicap a Par 4 @ 442yds. MUST be played to the left to score, I went left.

For a public course having eight (8) par 4's at 398yds really puts the pressure on the long irons into the good size greens. Mostly a links style layout with only a few holes on the back 9 (3,435yds) giving you tree trouble if you stray.

Only two (2) groups in front of us so we were done in 2hrs and 15 minutes (18 holes) with no hold ups.

The highlight was seeing eight (8) turkeys on #16 par 3 green, I got a Birdie with Jeremy getting a par.

Jeremy had 42/46 w/ 36 putts and I shot 47/43 w/ 31 putts and look forward to returning in warmer weather. All in all, good course layout with conditions to match for a Metro-park run course. Must play in the early AM if you want to miss the 4.5 hour rounds that summer prime time brings, getting their monies worth on strokes and time spent.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level

This is a very nice course with a good yardage layout (6,700) from the tips that varies in layouts to keep you on your toes. Little high priced on the weekends ($40) but gets alot of play so they can charge it. If you like fast play get the first five tee times or don't bother to come. It gets backed up pretty quick as some people like to make it a 5-6 hrs adventure and the rough hids the ball pretty good if you go hunting. Played it many times being the first off and finished in 3.5 hrs but #1 tee had a 3 group back-up by 9am and looked slow. Worth playing once but price should be $30.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Average course for the area

Wow! I had to walk off the course after eight holes. I have never been so mistreated on a golf course.

My foursome played five holes and had a minor delay at the sixth tee. We allowed the threesome behind us to play through. As we were waiting for the green to clear the marshal drove through our group and told one of the guys not to hit his shot. The marshal proceeded to the sixth tee and had a twosome couple that just arrived play through us. They were below average golfers and took several shots just to get to our drives. The lady apologized profusely for making us wait and added she had no idea why the marshal had them play through. We told them not to worry and told them to enjoy their round.

It took us no less than 40 minutes to get through the sixth hole. What a disaster. We played the seventh and eighth wholes and made it to the ninth tee when the marshal came down the fairway, passed by us, on his way the the eighth hole. He turned around and came back towards us. I want to be very clear at this point. We were on the ninth tee, the closest group behind us was out of sight but a view of their cart would suggest they were on the seventh green. No one was even on the eighth hole. The marshal approached us again and said we could hit our tee shots, but would have to wait for the group behind us to play through. We told him that wasn't going to happen. He said we would do as we we''re told. That was it, I lost it. I told him what I thought of him and then hit a beautiful slice into the rough. We drove to our shots and he followed us and parked behind us. I was done at this point.

Don't waste your money and time at this place. There are great courses in the area, but this place isn't worth it. Oh it only took us 2 hours and 10 minutes to play the nine holes even after letting two groups play through us. We were not slowing down the pace of play.

Bottom line: Worse than average course for the area

Well maintained fairly open course to warm up that early seeason game. Greens in good shape, rough cut nicely despite all the rain we had.
